I’ve dealt with razor burn for most of my adult shaving life and I’ve tried hundreds of shaving creams. The true test of a great shaving product is sleeping on it. Shave in the morning and if you wake up the next day with ingrown hairs, something went wrong. Granted, there are a number of things that can cause this irritation beyond using the wrong product (like, shaving against the grain, or just shaving incorrectly). Well, I got my hands a tube of Phytomer Homme’s Rasage Perfect Shaving Mask and gave it a whirl.

I know you’re probably thinking, “What the hell is a shaving mask?” Well, it’s a non-foaming cream. But with this product, you apply it to your beard and leave it on for a minute or two before reaching for your blade. This will soften up the hair on your face and prepare your skin. Shave as usual and rinse with warm water at the end.

I usually shave in the shower to give my beard extra time to soften from the warm water and steam. I also prefer to shave before washing my face. I don’t have any science to back me up, but I believe the natural oils that my skin is so fond of making while I sleep also provides a little extra slip for the razor. Plus, washing my face after shaving will get rid of any residue from the shaving products. Some people won’t agree with me.

Phyohydrane: A purified marine extract. Apparently, it fives a “sensation of immediate comfort and an intense moisturizing effect that increases day by day.”

Marine Oxhylium: A marine algae extract that oxygenates and detoxifies the skin.

Macadamia Nut Oil: A moisturizing oil that helps to provide some slip so the razor glides gently.

But wait! There’s more. This shaving mask can also be used as a moisturizing treatment for your whole face and neck. Once or twice a week, dampen your face and apply the mask all over, shave as usual and rinse the rest off with warm water.
