Snake Venom in Eye Cream: Anti Aging Miracle Worker or Just Another Snake Oil?

Submitted by on July 13, 2007 – 3:00 pm16 Comments

It’s not news that men are willing to go to great lengths to fight the signs of aging. Hell, over 400,000 men injected their faces last year with a toxin created by an anaerobic bacteria that causes food poisoning for a few expressionless and wrinkle-free months (I’m not knocking Botox, just pointing out the facts).

So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Snake Venom has found its way into an eye cream by Peter Thomas Roth. Okay, so PTR’s Un-Wrinkle isn’t formulated with the real deal, can’t-feel-my-legs, Indiana Jones-style snake venom. And no snakes were forced to give up the goods for an eye cream. So don’t worry about paralysis or unsightly swelling (unless you’re allergic). The cream contains a synthetic viper’s venom, called SYN-AKE, and its makers claim that this “active peptide mimics the venom of the Temple Viper, which has been proven to be very effective in blocking muscular contraction.”

In other words, it’s another product that is vying for the title of “over the counter Botox.” But is it effective? Good question. Who knows? I’ll let you know if I look 10 years younger next month.

The eye cream does contain some ingredients worth mentioning that offer skincare benefits:

Peptides: Some limited research shows that peptides actually help to create collagen, the face-plumping wonder.

Hyaluronic Acid: A fab moisturizer that binds water to the skin—it keeps your skin from looking like leather.

Vitamins A and E: Antioxidants that are common in skin care products.

What do you think? Anti-aging Miracle cream or fad-filled snake oil?

This snake venom stuff is all over. I found this other product called HydroPeptide that has the snake venom peptide too. The stuff really works. You can feel it really tightening the skin, but at the same time, it feels so relaxing. I just bought my second pump of the HydroPeptide Cellular Transformation Growth Serum so I think I’ve been using it for about a month, and I have been getting so many comments lately. Everyone thinks I’ve gotten something done, but I’ve only been using the HydroPeptide. My opinion: snake venom is here to stay…

This is my first comment here , so I hope I do it — and get it — right. I wanted to start with something simple, like a health and beauty aid, and I saw my wife putting the Made from Earth – Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer on her face this morning (as she’s done very morning for the past 20 years of our married life) and I asked her why she uses it and is so dedicated to this one particular product. She scowled a bit at me and asked, “Can’t you see why?”

    Point taken.

She looks beautiful and as young as when we first met (Yes, she’s looking over my shoulder as I write this. Ow!)

But seriously, she is well on her way to 50 and (Ow!) looks fantastic. Her face is soft and nearly wrinkle-free, and many women underestimate her age which, of course, she loves.

Whatever materials are contained in it, she has obviously benefitted. But even if she hadn’t been using it, and became wrinkled (Ow!) and hard (Umf!) and aged in appearance (Yow!), I would still love her (Awww!).

Awsome post about skin care. It’s one of the best I’ve read so far!

    Thanks!

I thought Made from Earth products was all hype, but my wife made me try their Olive Night Creme – which is recommended as an UNDER EYE cream.

I never used “eye care” products before and was AMAZED at the result. My wife says I look younger and healthier and no longer have shadows under my eyes. It also feels great and makes me look energized at work.

This whole snake-venom stuff is scary. I have a friend who got skin burns from a snake-venom product (from a reputable company I might add).

Personally I use Tru-Face Essence which contains Ethocyn – the only ingredient that can (and does) restore the elasticity to the skin and eliminates wrinkles.

    I totally recommend it.

I have been using the Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer (from Made from Earth) and after one month of daily use, here is my verdict: This stuff works. It’s not magic, it’s not a miracle, it doesn’t transform every wrinkle and age spot. But it makes your skin look BETTER than before, which is all we can really hope for, isn’t it?

I’ve noticed a somewhat dramatic change in the fine lines around my eyes (no, I don’t use a separate eye cream). They are smoother and much less noticeable. The few age spots I’ve developed seem to be lighter. Overall, looking at my face in the mirror now, I sometimes have to do a double-take because my skin looks so much better and brighter. The permanent dark circles under my eyes are even lighter.

I have acne prone skin and I was nervous about using a new moisturizer, but quickly found that my skin actually CLEARED UP while using this product. Likely, it was due to my regimented focus on skin care in general, but this did NOT contribute to any breakouts at all. Highly recommend the Made from Earth line if you are looking for solutions.

  • Just looking around for information on specific anti aging products and methodology; I think it’s important that people are aware of all the different methods that they can use to revitalise their skin and their current look.

  • An anti-wrinkle face cream that uses the venom of snakes has become a best-seller since 2006, i think, so no question on its effectiveness in that case. Based on my readings, the active ingredient in the venom block nerve signals telling the muscles to contract, helping to stop wrinkles forming.

Many ant-aging products has been introduce to me.And this snake-venum wrinkle cream seems to be another many anti-aging products introduced in the market. It’s been a long time already I’ve been using one of the very effective ageloc anti-aging product by nuskin and I recommend it also. But why not try this one also! this could be a miracle to your wrinkles.

  • Aging is a natural process that no one could deny. However, with the combination of medicine and technology we have been able to delay the process of aging. Anti wrinkle creams have been gaining a lot of attention in recent years for its ability to reduce wrinkles and make the skin appear youthful.

The most important thing to remember when looking for anti wrinkle creams is to ensure that the ingredients are 100% natural. This will prevent from adverse side effects which harms the skin.

I’m just curious about this blog,I haven’t heard before about this anti-aging snake venum. Is this really effective,I’m afraid if what is the result if I’ll try to use this one.One to hear more reviews about this product. And try if read lots of testimonials about this anti-aging snake venum cream.

  • Nigel James says:

In the case of Prolou Snake venom anti wrinkle cream, they do not use actual snake venom. They use a synthetically manufactured ingredient that mimics the effects of snake venom.i.e. It immobilises the muscles so that the wrinkles don’t form in the beginning.

  • Hi There, I’m very interested in your eye snake cream/oil,
