Love it or hate it but Axe is here to stay.

The brand with its unique scents have become a powerhouse in men’s grooming, slowly consuming shelf space in drugstores as it expands into new categories. First the body sprays, then the antiperspirants and body washes, and now hair care and styling products.

Axe is a great brand for young guys who don’t want to spend a lot of money but are learning the importance of smelling good. It’s not a Givenchy or a Calvin Klein eau de toilette but the brand does a great job educating young men that if you want to get attention from the fairer sex, smelling good is a great way to improve your game.

Piggybacking on the success of Axe Hair care and styling products, the brand just launched three new 2-in-1 shampoo-and-conditioners. The new formulas that take washing your hair to a new level. It’s not just about the fragrance but the experience. With added ingredients like peppermint leaf, tea tree oil and citrus, guys will experience a warming, tingling or cooling sensation. A simple shampoo becomes more refreshing and therapeutic.

Previously, many of these ingredients and experiences were reserved for higher-priced lines like Bumble and bumble’s Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Oil line, or Aveda’s Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner. Axe brings these experiences and ingredients to the masses at an affordable price.

AXE Downpour Refreshing Mint Shampoo with peppermint leaf extract refreshes guys so they feel clean and cool.

AXE Heat Igniting Citrus 2 in 1 Shampoo + Conditioner with warming spices and citrus.

AXE Zen Soothing Tea Tree Shampoo with real tea tree extract, a natural astringent that’s great for oily hair.

Let’s be honest, most men (unless they dye or treat their hair in some way) don’t need to spend a ton of cash on a high-priced salon brand shampoo or conditioner. With short hair and frequent daily washing, using a gentle shampoo and conditioner designed for everyday use is all you need.

$4.99 for a 12oz. bottle, available at drugstores nationwide.

Enter to Win The Products!

Axe and HOMME Grooming are giving away 1 FULL SET of shampoos and styling products from Axe (that’s 10 shampoos/conditioner and 5 styling products) including the three new products. Can you say early Christmas gift? You won’t need to buy shampoo and styling products for a YEAR (maybe).

MenScience Androceuticals makes some interesting products that some might consider cutting-edge. I was astounded to read about their Daily Shampoo that contains Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids, also known as glycolic and salicylic acids respectively. These names should sound familiar to you because they are both common ingredients in skin care products and are chemical exfoliants. So what are they doing in a shampoo? Well, if you think about it, your scalp needs a little love too. I’ve never asked a dermatologist about the benefit of using AHA or BHAs on your scalp and hair, but I imagine that they could be helpful for guys with oily scalps and hair, or guys that tend to use a lot of product in their hair. Salicylic acid is commonly used by folks with acne because of it’s ability to unclog pores, so if you tend to break out along your scalp from oil buildup, this shampoo might be a good choice for you.

I would personally consider this product to be a deep-cleanser because of its ability to remove oil and product residue. Try it once a week. I’m not sure that I would recommend it for daily use, as it recommends on the bottle, because a little natural oil in your hair can actually make it easier to style (as long as you don’t have fine or thinning hair). And those same natural oils provide some protection against the elements. Fine hair tends to get oilier quicker so you’ll probably want to wash it everyday.

The shampoo still contains ammonium lauryl sulfate, which is a foaming agent or surfactant, so consider the AHA and BHAs a little extra cleansing oomf.

It’s available for $24 at the MenScience Androceuticals website.

Tired of your itchy scalp? Dandruff is a common problem among men (and women, too)—especially during the colder months. If you’ve got dry, itchy and flaky scalp, you’ll need a treatment that helps to combat the causes of dandruff, which is also known as seborrhea. While your scalp feels dry and itchy, you might want think that using a thicker, oilier conditioner will do the trick. Well, the fact is that your skin is oily. The cause of dandruff is widely believed (yet not entirely proven) to be a fungus called Pityrosporum ovale, which feeds on the oil of your scalp and irritates your skin. Luckily, there’s a number of over-the-counter products that can help
Redken‘s NEW Scalp Relief Dandruff Control line that launches later this month includes 3 products: Shampoo, Conditioner and a Leave-in Treatment. Each product contains 1% pyrithione zinc, which is an anti-fungal wonder. The best part about this line is the leave-in treatment that can be used one to four times each day. It keeps your scalp comfortable all day long while letting the pyrithione zinc work it’s magic all day long. Most products are just shampoos and conditioners that fight flakes are rinsed out immediately, so you might not get an ideal amount of the dandruff-fighting powers.

To top things off:Redken’s anti-flake products don’t smell like medicine.

Flakes won’t stand a chance.

The products will be available in salons around the country.
